I still like showing this work. Back in 2006 ish I worked for a local Michigan photographer Tom Roche. The first challenge was a custom website portfolio that allowed him to swap out his custom gallery of different styles of photography within the (Flash) built web experience with animation.
I new we would have to wright some custom code and pioneer this kind of portfolio because no one had built one. This site ended up being a huge success. It generated lots of conversation for new and old people in the design and advertising industry. It was a proven working model with a custom back end dashboard that was simple to use without writing a single line of code. A very similar UI backend to what could find on (wordpress) today but, the front end showing to the public was a fully custom (flash) with sounds and animation to Tom’s modern design taste. The site generated more work for Tom’s studio and more work more me. I recall to this day…. the passion of working with “T” problem solving with creative thinking, working ideas out so they won’t be forgotten, but remembered. Taking chances with new ideas was a big part of it. The leave behind flip books were an another example of successful studio marketing.
I can still recall the ambition, high energy, creative thinking and excitement working as a young designer with Tom. This is also the studio that handed me my first retouching job which turned into lots of work down the road in advertising around the midwest and around the world.
